Training and Materials Development Division, with its long field-based experience, is in a process of shifting paradigm in design, development and facilitation of training courses and also developing education, information and communication materials in a way that needs of the community are reflected through their participation in the process.

In the year 2005-2006, TMD has organized and facilitated
|
|
- 1396 batches of training on various courses for capacity development of DAM staff as well as field based development beneficiaries.
- Two workshops for the development of 16 new courses as per requirement
- Designed and developed new training curriculums on 21 courses.
- Followed-up training at field level on 13 courses
- Existing 13 training curriculums were reviewed and modified
- Existing 10 training manuals were reviewed and modified.
- 10 national and international level training workshops.

DAM has assumed a unique position in development of education and communication materials through its sustained efforts giving special attention to the learning needs of the clientele groups. DAM is the producer of highest number of such materials in Bangladesh and these materials are extensively used by various GOs and NGOs. The materials are need based, innovative and user friendly. Current number of titles are 343.

To meet the diverse learning needs of the target population in various contexts, during 2005-2006, the Materials Development unit undertook a series of activities. These include,

- Review and revision of existing materials and Development of
- Supplementary materials for primary education children
- Competency based materials on identified issues
- Specialized materials on preservation of cultural heritage
- Skills-based materials
- Environment and science focused materials
- Materials with right-based contents, etc.

|
Like the contents, the format of the materials also varied. During this year in total 28 materials were developed, of which 15 are booklet and 11 are animation video CD.
|
|
|
As part of technical support to the vulnerable group development (VGD) project of the Ministry of Women and Children Affairs, literacy package materials were developed for 110,000 VGD women learners of seven northern districts of Bangladesh.
|
|
|
The two monthly magazines named “Alap” and “Amader Patrika” for the neo-literates and persons with low levels of literacy are regularly published with inclusion of newer materials as desired by the readers.

|
Major activities & achievement of BLRC during the year 2005-06 are as follows:

- Coordinate Study of CLC Network & Linkages in Bangladesh for UNESCO.
- Organized a National Workshop on ICT and Basic Education in collaboration with UNESCO, established five ICT centre at the community level and coordinate master trainer training on ICT utilization at the community level.
- Implemented Planet 3 - Waste Management pilot project at the community level.
- Developed a web based pilot information management project and organized capacity development activities for Ganokendra members on ICT.
- Provided internship support to two Japanese students for orientation of non-formal education and community development by DAM.
- Organized Chand Sultana Literacy Award 2005 ceremony.
